Subject: State Web Accessibiity Standards
The Arizona, Government Information Technology Agency has just adopted
Section 508 web accessibility standards for the state of Arizona. The
working group who created the standards was made up of Web masters from
the
Department of Health Services, Arizona State University, East, and
Maricopa
Community Colleges. In addition to these experts, the working group
contained the director of the state ADA office, a member of the State
Deaf
and Hearing council, an Attorney with the state Tech Act office, the
Assistant Director of the ASU, Disability Resources for Students, and
Arizona citizens with disabilities. The committee worked for over five
months to create this standard. It incorporates diverse objectives from
508
to create an effective document for a legal web accessibility standard.
It
also includes an attachment with a series of "suggestions" that can
assist
webmasters in meeting the standard by displaying examples of possible
techniques.
