This happens to me all the time at work when I try to burn a CD. For some
reason it doesn't always finalize. My solution: a hard reboot of the
machine. In other words, if you can't get it to shutdown correctly then
power it off, wait a minute and power it on again. When it's up, immediately
remove the CD. I would not try to read it again as the same thing will
probably happen.
