No, shut down the computer, then disconnect the data cable from the slave drive, then disconnect the power plug from it, then boot up again.  It will be as if the drive is not there, and you shouldn't get any beeps or anything else.

>i double checked the cables and it is securely plugged. i also tried to slot in the cables in both ide slots but still no answer. i tried disconnecting the power supply from the drive
