Brief History: Health concerns led me to Neanderthin in 1998, and I was
quite strictly paleo for about six months, then strayed from it until last
year and now have been strictly paleo for the past eight months...with the
exception of coffee.
I have now quit the coffee, but am experiencing dizziness and near-fainting
when I stand up. I have always had low blood pressure, and have had
symptoms of adrenal exhaustion and/or adrenal insufficiency for years. (I
am in my 30s.) I quit the coffee back in December, waited for three or
four weeks, but the dizziness/faintness did not subside, so it seemed my
adrenals were not going to start up on their own and I returned to the
coffee. I really want to stay off of it this time, as I know that the
caffeine continues to deplete the adrenals.
I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions for stimulating the adrenals
without exhausting them, or for raising the blood pressure. My diet is
high in red meat and nuts, moderately low in vegetables, and I cannot eat
fruit due to my specific health concerns. I do eat a fair amount of salt
to keep the blood pressure up a bit.
Before I was paleo, the symptoms were milder (I was not a coffee drinker
before I went paleo, ironically). I think this way of eating exaggerates
the faintness, due to either lower caloric intake or lower blood sugar, or
both. Does anyone have experience with this? Any dietary suggestions for
dealing with it?
Thanks for any thoughts...
Briana
