II use an older Yaesu one with piano key controls for stop, left and
right rotate.
it is inaccessible inso far that I cannot read the screen.

The control of the rotator is usually by a low DC voltage so I guess
using a VCO could be a way of finding out which way the beam is
pointing.

Here in the U.K. it is difficult to get hold of those which have a
knurled rotary central protrusion.  If you can get hold of one of this
kind, then you can notch out the edge above the pointer.

I am in the process of establishing a station in my /p qth by the sea,
about 100 miles from here, and I will be putting a parallel port
controlled rotator in situ.
All my logging is done on the PC  and I think this is a sensible
approach in my situation.
As mentioned on the list before, I use two DOS logging programs which do
all that any dx-er wants.
