Well, point well taken, in that it is not good to generalize and ofcourse
there are plenty of young people who have hobbies and interests other than
school. There are plenty of hobbies over the years that have become outdated
for one reason or another so ham radio is not experiencing anything all that
rare. By the way, even older radios without speach synth output can be used
by the blind. Many of us who were hams before the cool solid state stuff
with synths came out still were able to get on ham bands even though it
wasn't quite as simple and certainly not quite as accurate with an analog
dial even for sighted. Dave
