It is apparently possible to network a scanner with appropriate
software. At one time I looked into it, but decided against doing so.
Running a scanner requires you to be at the scanner anyway, so why not
just use the machine that it is attached to for the scanning. You can
share the folder that the scan is saved to, or make the scanner save to
a network drive.
Just my experiences. Sorry that I don't have a reference on where to get
the networking software. If I recall correctly, such software would come
from the scanner manufacturer.
