There are many things that can make a system re-boot like this.
(Bad drivers, flaky RAM, etc...)

The first thing I would do would be to set XP to "Blue Screen" instead.

Do I hear you saying "what???"
Yes...  One of the MS "cures" for the infamous "Blue Screen"
is a spontaneous re-boot instead...  (Great fix, right?)

On the good side, even though I have my system set this way,
I never(?~) see "Blue Screens"...
