The password dialogue box comes up when you attempt to access a network
share that is not in your workgroup or domain.  You are not a user known to
the pc serving the shared device, so it asks for a password. It makes sense
that you have no idea what it is because you did not explicitly set a
password.  you can fix this by making all workgroup assignments in network
properties agree for all pc's.  You might also check subnet mask and make
sure everyone has the same entry there too.
