The Wheelchair Foundation Disability Awareness Fellow Manager – Wheelchairs
for Peace Initiative

Sister Cities International (SCI) seeks a highly motivated and
detail-oriented individual to manage our new five-year initiative,
“Wheelchairs for Peace.”  The Wheelchair Foundation and SCI are committed to
providing 60,000 wheelchairs over the next five years to communities
throughout the world. The Wheelchair Foundation has pledged at least $4.5
million to the project, which will be matched, by U.S. sister city chapters
in cooperation with local Rotary Clubs.  Each participating chapter will
commit to providing 240 wheelchairs to one of its sister cities each year.
In addition to the distribution of the wheelchairs, the sister cities and
their international partner will commit to working jointly on making their
communities more accessible and welcoming to people with disabilities.

A non-profit organization headquartered in Washington, DC, SCI is a citizen
diplomacy network creating and strengthening partnerships between U.S. and
international communities in an effort to increase global cooperation at the
municipal level, to promote cultural understanding and to stimulate economic

Duties: Designing, developing, and implementing the overall program;
participating in the identification and selection of appropriately-skilled
partnerships; organizing and maintaining files; developing and implementing
programs with local partnerships; monitoring, reporting and serving as
primary point of contact; interact and coordinate carefully with the
Wheelchair Foundation; provide information and assistance to local sister
city organizations; working with the SCI International Council for
Disability Awareness (ICDA) to develop a disability awareness initiative.

Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree or higher; disability awareness
experience; at least two years of program management experience; strong
communication and writing skills. Understanding of and passion for
international issues desired.

Additional Information
Salary:  30K + excellent benefits package
Position Type:  Full-time, with flexible hours
Location:  Close to both the Metro Center and Federal Triangle stops (New
office as of December 1).  Working from home is also a possibility.
