  Actually, a 9-pin female connector could be for a CGA (RGB), MDA
monochrome (TTL) or EGA video adapter.  Almost all VGA adapters have
a third row of pins, for 15 total.

  However, I discounted the video possiblities, because Tom said that
he had multiple peripherals, but did not say anything about monitors.
About the only device besides a monitor that he might want to plug
into a video connector would be an overhead projector.
