Hi all,
This may open a can of worms, but it is a legitimate question that I have
been pondering. I recently upgraded my motherboard, processor, sound card,
and video card. I reused my SCSI cards, hard drives, and NIC. I did a clean
install of XP Pro full OEM. Upon getting the OS installed as I usually do I
went to Device Manager and the only thing that was incorrect was the SB
Audigy. No surprise, installed the driver and update from Creative and no
negative marks in Device Manager. Now for the question. Is there any
advantage to using drivers from manufacturers vs. the drivers that were in
XP? I read all the time about "Detonator"? drivers for Gforce cards. Drivers
for NIC? Some times the old saw "if it works don't fix it" applies, but then
again don't we love to tweak and mess with our machines to eek out a modicum
of additional performance?
System is:
ABIT KG7
XP 1600
ABIT Siluro MX T400
SB Audigy
Adaptec 2940UW
Adaptec 2906
3- Cheetah UW drives
Plextor UltraPlex 40 SCSI
Plextor PlexWriter 12/10/32S
3Com 3C905-TX-M
The system has been running well with a few stop errors here and there.
Thanks for any insight into this.
