Jim,
I think that WinME doesn't support format-- FormatC:/s. Check the format
status of the drive ( FDISK/STATUS ) before you FDISK. You may be better off
with WinSE.
WinME did not have network and has had lackluster driver support. It was a
stopgap OS put out because WinXP was behind schedule...
