Hi all,

If anyone on this list from Pittsburgh is interested in National Disability
Mentoring Day, please let me know. Joyce Bender, my employer, is the
coordinator for this area. We are looking for students between 16 and their
early 20's with disabilities who have an interest in technical fields that
would like to be job shadowed for the day. We are also looking for
employers that are interested in shadowing a student.

The date is October 16.

If you want to see if there is a National Disability Mentoring Day
coordinated event in your area, visit
http://www.aapd-dc.org/coordinators/coord2list.html.

Thanks,
Mike

> Disability Mentoring Day is a national effort designed to promote the
> employment of students with disabilities through the time-tested success
of
> personal mentoring. It enables students to spend part of a day visiting a
> business or government agency that matches their interests and have
> one-on-one time with volunteer mentors.
>
> Disability Mentoring Day began in 1999 as a White House effort to help
boost
> the employment of people with disabilities and was patterned after other
> mentoring and job shadow activities, such as the national Groundhog Job
> Shadow Day. Last year, Disability Mentoring Day events were hosted in 14
> states and Washington, DC, with the participation of 17 federal agencies
and
> more than two dozen national businesses. Disability Mentoring Day is now

Putnam
