Sorry about that last one - the half finished post somehow sent itself.
What I meant to say was that I've disabled any references in the BIOS that
seemed appropriate, although I think that just about everything in the BIOS
is more concerned with floppies during startup than shutdown.

<An old annoyance is the way Windows98 checks the floppy on a call to
shutdown or reboot.
So prior to the shut\start, there's a 'clunkety-clunk' from the floppy,
repeated 3 times, as Windows re-assures itself about something esoteric.
This isn't a new phenomena, my wife's machine has been doing it for forever
as well.
Anyone know how to prevent this?
The floppy behaves otherwise normally, the BIOS is...>
