I am running a Western Digital 30 gig 7200 rpm ATA100 drive with Win 98 SE, and it is the master with a CD-ROM slave on its channel.  I know Dell machines use CS, but outside of them, I've never heard that an ATA100 drive won't work unless set to CS.
