Good day to you listers!

I am considering building a system based on the ECS K7S5A mobo paired with a Duron 800/850 processor and a 40Gb 5400RPM HDD. I plan to fit 256Mb RAM in the machine possibly 512 if Win98 can handle it which to my knowledge it cannot. My problem is what RAM to use since the mobo can accomodate both DDR RAM and SDRAM. How much advantage in practical terms is gained by the use of DDR RAM? Cost is a consideration as I live in a Third World country. My projected use is basic computing (eg. internet, word processing, office use) at present I am not contemplating on doing any video editing. I live in a tropical environment with a computer which will doubtfully ever experience being in an air-conditioned environment. Cooling of the processor will be provided mainly by a Thermaltake Volcano CPU fan. I don't think further upgrades will be made to the processor later down the road as that to my experience it is better to buy a complete CPU and mobo unit.

Thanks in advance.

Joseph Hallare
