I had a very similar problem, and with each passing day there were more
sites on my bookmark list that could not be found. The substance is that
there is a problem with Windows coordinating he IP address with the name of
the site. Use find file to locate *.host files. Delete them. As soon as I
did that I could go anywhere. My recollection is these files (I believe
there were two of them) are in Windows system or maybe in Windows. Either
way, delete them. If deleting system files makes you nervous you can copy
them to c:\windows\temp\(hostfiles, or any name you give to a folder you
create). Otherwise copy them to a floppy of zip disk. Worked for me.

There may be other answers, but I've found that after a while of
accessing the net, I start getting the "Can't find page" screens. If I
get two of these in a row, I shut down and restart the computer. After
that, I usually, have no trouble "Can't find page" screens for awhile.
