ALL SUBSCRIBERS,
It is much regrettable to announce the death of a dear friend and
brother, MOMODOU M.MANNEH.This sad event took place on
Monday,July,30th,2001. Momodou was born and raised in Manneh Kunda at
Salekene in Central Baddibu. He went to Salekene Primary School and later
Armitage High School. After his high school career, Momodou worked at the
Income Tax Department for a number of years together with Yajama
Samba(wife of late Saul Samba) and others. He came to the United States
in the early 1970s with the help of his oldest cousin Dr.Momodou
M.S.K.Manneh(former minister of Economic Planning in the Jawara
Administration).Momodou(the deceased) did his high school at Salisbury
High School at Salisbury in Connecticut and later moved to Voorhees
College in South Carolina and subsequently Nashville in Tennessee where
he lived briefly before he joined his older cousin, Momodou G Manneh in
Houston, Texas.
Back home in the Gambia, Momodou(the deceased) used to live with his
oldest sister at Albion Place. He was a member of the then Hellion Youths
Club, which had as its patron,James Gomez(former mayor of Banjul). Momodou
Manneh was an outgoing guy and a very fine person. He has made many
friends during his life time. He would be missed by many in this country
as well as the Gambia. He is survived by his only son Saul Manneh, whom
he named after Saul Samba, the late husband of Yajama Samba. It should be
noted here however that the naming of his son after late Saul Samba came
about as a result of the close friendship he had with Yajama Samba whilst
both were working as clerks at the Income Tax Office. Prior to his
departure to the United States and conscious of the fact that the birth
of his son was only weeks away, he asked his familly to name it after
Saul Samba in honour of the bond of friendship he had with Yajama Samba.
As I write this obituary, Momodou's body has been laid to rest at a
muslim cemetary in Houston Texas. Lack of enough financial resources has
made it impossible to fly the deceased's body to his family in the
Gambia. He was laid to rest on Sunday,August,12th,2001. Although Momodou
has been burried, help is still needed to assist his familly(two sisters)
and his only son Saul Manneh. I wish to appeal to all Gambians every
where to assist his brother at Houston with some donations which would
go to help the deceased's son Saul Manneh, who by the way never had a
chance to know his father. These donations can be sent to: MOMODOU
