I want to speculate again that the forthcoming presidential and legislative
elections will be quite interesting as we may see a re-drawing of the
Opposition camp.

According to the Senegalese daily, Le Soleil, an adhoc committee of the PPP
has decided to re-elect former President Jawara as the party's
Secretary-General.  The decision came up during an extra-ordinary meeting
held under the chairmanship of Omar Jallow (OJ) yesterday in Banjul.  The
committee has also been charged with the responsibility of getting in touch
with other parties in the Opposition regarding a possible coalition. On a
side note, Gambian newspapers should come come up with their own websites as
this important news has not yet appeared on the pages of Quantum Net and
allAfrica.com

As we get closer to the presidential race in October, we're bound to see
some surprising moves in the Opposition camp.  If the GPP and NCP follow in
the steps of the PPP, we will for the first time in the country's history,
witness the presence of 7 or more political parties contesting national
elections.  This balkanization of the political parties will certainly
divide the electorate, and unless the Opposition unites the ruling APRC will
take advantage of the situation.
