Actually I'd rather not win a lottery. Too much money too quickly and too
many greedy people and other bad stuff. No thanks, I like my life simple.
Unfortunately our state is caught in a no-win situation right now. Because
a lot of federal programmes have been cut, the state's budget has run out
of money to fund a lot of projects and it looks as if we'll be operating on
a deficit. The governor favours a lottery and we are between two states
that offer lotteries. That means a lot of money flows out of the state for
these lotteries, money that could be spent in-state and for sales taxes,
too. I'm not crazy about sponsoring a programme that opens the door for
gambling addiction amongst those who can least afford it or to gambling
interests, but I'm not as opposed to it as I once was.
