One of the things I have found when installing new Os's is that
sometimes you end up installing two sets of virus protection
software without realising it. When this happens they can conflict
with each other and as the system boots and they start up in the
background they slow everything down as they compete with each
other.

May not be your problem but worth eliminating as a factor?
