It's as though some doors include five foot barriers over which the able
bodied person has to climb to enter a building. Instead of removing the
barrier, somebody comes up with a gadget to help the AB get over the barrier,
which the AB has to buy. We're telling the AB that the problem is with him
and not the barrier.

They would never accept a solution such as that. It's absurd and the answer
is to remove the barrier, and to quit installing barriers in front of doors,
then people will be able to walk through unimpeded.

We are going to continue to build stairs in places where more universally
acceptable solutions exist. I'd take one of these chairs in a heart beat if
one were offered to me, but the very design of it impresses me as a monument
to able body supremacy.

I wouldn't worry about the ADA because of this, but if we want to maintain
what we have, and make what we have better, we are going to first need to
recognize that the ground upon which we are fighting has changed, and not in
support of tactics that might have given the appearance of being successful
before September 11.

There's the can 'O' worms.
