I know what you mean. I just got my first order of raised line checks
and wrote my first check last week. I was pleased to find how easy and
simple they were to use. Unfortunately, not all banks and brokerages
offer raised line checks. Some that do charge more for them than the
cost of the most basic printed checks, a clear violation of the ADA
because the bank is charging for an accommodation. One large bank here
in Chicago charges $18 for raised line checks and $13 for basic printed
checks, a $5 difference which is the cost of the check guide. The bank
placates activists but won't drop the additional charge for other blind
people. We are going after them but there are other banks that may do
something similar. Of course, there are other banks that have embraced
access, such as those with talking ATM programs, and offer raised line
checks without an accommodation surcharge.

Those work fine, but personally, I find that engraved checks that every
bank now offers are even more convenient. The lines are right on the
check.
