Good afternoon list:
I recently downloaded some Microsoft updates from the Windows updates site,
mainly security stuff and service pack 2 for my IE 5.5
Since downloading these files my scanner (an HP6200C) refuses to work and in
fact completely blanks out the computer. At this point, not only can I not
use my Open Book program but everything, including screen reader, just stops
and I have to reboot.
I have spoken with Hewlett Packard, Freedom Scientific and my local vendor
who seem to think that there is some kind of software conflict and advise me
to uninstall these MS updates.
I did try to do this through the system information uninstall updates
feature but get the message that there are no updates to uninstall.
I note there is a Windows Update folder dated the day I downloaded these
updates but I'm frankly frightened now to do anything in case I make matters
worse.
My scanner is the HP6200C and thanks to a really nice guy on this site who
sent me details of how to download the next version of HP Precision Scan
Pro.
I have also been advised that I could download Internet Explorer 6 or even
remove Internet Explorer 5.5 and Internet Tools program from the add/remove
programs feature within my control panel, replacing it with the IE 5.5
version that came on my JAWS disk.
I do need the scanner urgently so if anybody has any thoughts at all I would
love to hear from you.
Bestest,
DOREEN YALE.
