The problem with this is that you will really need to create a fireproof, and probably sprinklered and ventilated, shaftway if you install any sort of a dumbwaiter/elevator type device. Installing one of those stair-o-lator things for use as a hoist would undoubtedly void the warranty (unless you had the manufacturer design and alter it for use as a hoist).
Drew's shingle hoist idea sounded pretty good, but you might have OSHA problems with janitors operating such equipment, little kids getting stuck in the device, etc.
You're screwed. Let your janitors haul the stuff up the stairs as they always have. To do otherwise will cost you a fortune and give you a whole new set of problems.
