The higher level of fat in French diets is probably one reason why they don't
feel the need to snack between meals. According to Dr. Atkins, the French eat
comparable amounts of meat and fish, four times the butter and twice as much
cheese as Americans. They also eat one-fifth the amount of sugar we eat in the
U.S.
