Tom and all,
I remember a few years ago, we were supposed to get new technology out of
nist. I have yet to see it except hearing about some limitted trials with
it. I also heard of it being used in the development of some hugely
expensive product. I would hazard that by the time this technology that was
announced here reaches production and the us market, given the limitted
number of braille displays that are required to serve the market, the cost
will be sugnificant.

Just a comment from my 20 plus years of seeing people try to
invent new braille displays.
I know no more than is in the news story about this thin film one,
but it sounds like a much better plan than anything else I've
heard of. Sounds like it can be built using thin film depositing
technology, thus mass produceable, fewer moving parts etc.
don't get our hopes up too high, but I'm less pesamistic about
this one than many others.
