Mary,

I use Open Book but the issues with scanners are about the same for both
programs. I bought my scanner last year and yes it was an Epson. This
is a brand name and not the name of a particular scanner, similar to Ford
cars or Sony electronic equipment. The scanner I got is no longer
produced, being replaced by another model. I spent about $250 on the
scanner rather then going with the cheapest $100 or less model. Why?
The scanning, according to the reviews I read, gave excellent results.
This turned out to be true. At work, they purchased a cheap scanner. I
found that my home scanner, which can scan at 400 dots per inch, on
average offers about 15 percent better results. to make a scanner
purchase decision, check out reviews on CNet at:

http://www.cnet.com

go to the search box and type in scanners and pour through all the
information. I spent several weeks on and off before finally making a
decision. it is difficult to recommend a specific model, as
manufacturers discontinue products and introduce new ones, which is why
doing research is so important. This way you can be assured of current
and accurate information on today's products.

Kelly
