Are Java Applications/Applets Different From Java Script?

Understandably, there is some confusion surrounding the terms Java and Java Script.  We have already defined the Java programming language, so what is Java Script?  Basically, it is a tool that web designers can use to perform advanced functions on web pages that are difficult or impossible to perform with standard HTML coding.  Whenever possible, JAWS will read the information displayed by Java Script on web pages.
