here is a list of shortcut keys in ms word that came from a service of
upi.  if anyone is interested, there is also a list for ms excel.

    Word has a huge volume of shortcuts from which we have selected the
best
  and handiest of the crop. Word shortcuts most often have a toggle action
to
  them. This means that you use the keystroke once to apply the shortcut,
  twice to undo what you have done. For instance, one of the shortcuts
reveals
  non-printing characters (CTRL+SHIFT+*) Press this combination once to
reveal
  the paragraph marks etc., and once again to hide them.
    Here's our list:
    Open a document CTRL+O
    Close a document CTRL+W
    Save a document CTRL+S
    Quit Word ALT+F4
    Find text, formatting, and special items CTRL+F
    Repeat find ALT+CTRL+Y
    Replace text, specific formatting, and special items CTRL+H
    Go to a page, bookmark, footnote, table, comment, graphic, or other
  location CTRL+G
    Go back to a page, bookmark, footnote, table, comment, graphic, or
other
  location ALT+CTRL+Z
    Browse a document ALT+CTRL+HOME
    Cancel an action ESC

    Once again, we recommend that you print out the list and try each of
the
  shortcuts to see which of them has value to you. Try your new-found tools
on
  a document that you already know well, then close the document (CTRL+W)
  without saving.
