I used W98 SE from the very beginning.
I am not meaning that all Maxtor HDD 40 GB have that problem.
In fact, we have used more than 200 to build some PCs. All of them have
worked OK. Just curious on the fact that the same thing has happened to me
and others and what could be turning those HDD into ROMULUS. May be
technicians from Maxtor have something to say.
I dont have the e-mail from maxtor support¡?
I´d like to read some more comments
TIA
Roberto

Roberto,
My question is what OS did you format that with? W98 or Win 98SR2?
If you did not set it up with Large Partitioning it may not be recognized.
Also Did the drive get formated with the System? Boot from your floppy disk
and see if you can see the drive, if so then you will only need transfer the
system to the Hdrive.

Subject: [PCBUILD] Maxtor 40 gb HDD
Trying to install some Maxtor 40 gb HDDs-model 4D040H2, something arre
has
ocurred in some of them:
When you try to install eg W98 SE, the HDD is recognized by the BIOS and
the
installation ends OK, but when you restart the PC, the model recognozed
is
MAXTOR ROMULUS and the system is not available: the HDD is not useful
any
more.
This happened with mobos like MS 5368L, Shuttle HOT 681V...
¿ Any comments or advice?
TIA
