Mr Dampha,
I want to take your argument regarding list management a
step further. I believe the whole idea of regulating both the quantity and
tone of speech for list members is both ineffective and unnecessary. I
understand the implied or stated impulse for wanting to maintain a certain
decorum in a public forum, but attempts at any enforcement tends to come
across as petty and unworthy. I think occasional coarseness of language is
part of the natural evolutionary process of any meaningful dialogue. To a
large extent our expressed views are a reflection of how we feel about
certain issues. I do not believe any list member should be censured or
delisted for any reason. People have a really good way of not playing into
the hands of folks who make no sense hence being unworthy of engagement. For
all the years I have been this list, I have kept to a simple but effective
rule and it revolves around reading only postings I am interested in and
engaging list members who make sense to me. This affords me what I believe to
be good value for the time I spend here and that is the whole purpose.
