I'm gland to see this issue discussed. I remember Felix bringing this
issue for discussion several years ago. Let me know when you find space. I
have a 5-drawer filing cabinet ready for us.

Subject: OFFICE AND STORAGE SPACE FOR AAM
Towards the end of last Saturday's meeting, Felix Ossia brought up a very
crucial and important point, but at the time it was getting too late and we
were all antsy to go home and the matter received only a cursory response.
Indeed, I was the one who moved that the meeting be adjourned not long after
that.
Mr. Ossia wanted to find out what was happening, or has happened to the
Association's records. In other words, what processes we use to archive the
documents and materials of the Association. I think this is a very
significant and critical issue that we must re-visit with seriousness and
find answers and solutions to in the near future. If you ask any past
executive member of the Association, he/she would tell you how important it
is to know what was done in the past.
The even bigger picture is that if the Association is to grow into a
respectable organization which it is gradually becoming in the community,
then we must have a good process of record keeping and a better system
maintaining our documents and materials. ULTIMATELY, WE MUST HAVE AN OFFICE.
At one point there was even talk of renting a storage space to store all the
documents, materials and costumes we have generated over the past six years.
This is the reason why towards the end of last year I arranged a
relationship with the UW-Madison African Studies Program to offer us some
office space and an intern to help us with administrative chores relating to
AFRICA FEST.
I am sure there are non-profit organizations, or churches, or even
corporations out there in town that IF WE ASK, can offer the African
Association a small space to use as an office. All that would be needed is a
desk, couple of chairs, computer, printer, phone, fax machine, couple of
file cabinets, and maybe a copier.
Sebastian Wallang and I are pledging to the Association that if such a space
for use as office for the Association is found by any member of the
Association, the two of us will lead a fund drive to raise money to purchase
the office equipment and furniture mentioned above.
Thank you.
