If you check out the digital talking book standard, called the
"daisy" standard, you'll find that everything you wanted is in
there and more

since the library of congress helped to make this standard, it
can be assumed they will have machines that will offer this kind
of flexibility.

I think that starting out with insisting on a solidstate memory
card based technology is an error, CDRoms are still very much
less expensive to produce and handle than flash cards.

Any machine should be prepared to change with storage technology.

For those of you who have seen the library's CT1 machine that
plays disks (vynol type) and tapes, there is an example of
pretty clever design that offers simplicity and flexibility in
the old media.

Now they need reliability.

I think their heads are in the right place.
