FULL TIME POSITION AVAILABLE

POSITION: Web Accessibility Specialist (Computer Consulant II)

PRIMARY PURPOSE:
This position is responsible for ensuring that university web sites are
accessible to persons with disabilities, by providing education to
faculty and staff, and by facilitating compliance with applicable laws
and policies. The position will perform accessibility assessments of web
pages and sites, provide feedback and support to web developers, and
provide formal and informal education to the campus community on issues
relevant to accessible web design.

RESPONSBILITIES AND DUTIES:

* Work with appropriate staff in the Information Technology Division
(ITD) to assess current accessibility of university web pages using Bobby
and other tools. Provide systematic feedback (e.g., form letters via
email) to web authors whose pages are found to be inaccessible.

* Provide accessibility support to web authors, either by recommending
solutions or identifying and recommends resources for further
consultation.

* Assist appropriate staff in Disability Services for Students (DSS) as
needed to assess the accessibility of on-line materials for specified
individual students' current courses. If courses are not accessible,
recommend solutions to faculty members.

* Consult and collaborate with the Learning Technology Service (LTS) and
other appropriate on-campus groups to establish an ongoing campus-wide
awareness of web accessibility issues.

* Provide workshops, presentations and other training mechanisms for
faculty and staff regarding accessible web design.

* Provide individual assessments of university web sites upon request.

* Maintain active Web page of information and resources.

* Remain abreast of emerging technologies, and work proactively to
promote an understanding of emerging accessibility issues.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
* Graduation from a two-year technical college with a degree in data
processing and 18 months experience in computer consultation or
assistance; or graduation from a four-year college or university and 18
months experience in computer consultation or assistance; or an
equivalent combination of training and experience.
* Extensive knowledge of HTML
* Effective verbal and written communication skills
* Ability to work effectively with diverse personalities in a higher
education setting

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
* Knowledge of accessible web design, including WAI guidelines and
Section 508 standards
* Knowledge of and ability to effectively use screen reader
applications
* Knowledge of and ability to use cascading style sheets (CSS)
* Basic knowledge of Flash, Java, Javascript, and other web
technologies
* Basic knowledge of techniques for adapting multimedia using closed
captioning and descriptive video
* Knowledge of applicable laws

SALARY GRADE 72: $38,726-$53,809
