Peter,

I received a little more information than what you received. My response
is pasted below. Despite my request and the claim of expertise from your
correspondent, the head of the program could not provide a course
syllabus for her 10 week program for which she is charging more than
$6,000. While she mentions topics, she does not specify exactly what
students should be able to do and what they will know after the program
concludes. There are few defined outcomes. Further, it is unclear if
the internships she describes are arranged by the program or if students
are responsible for finding these themselves.

I am attaching the information you requested about the Assistive
Technology
Preparation Program. We are adding another piece to the flyer, which
will
state that the Lighthouse is able to offer payment plans for tuition as
well
as can accept major credit card payments.

Here is the text of the attachment:

Come to the Lighthouse for a New, High Demand Career in Technology:
Train to Become an Adaptive Technology Instructor

Become one of the few people who are professionally qualified and skilled
in
teaching these technologies. Sign up for Lighthouse International’s new
Assistive Technology Instructor Training Program.

Computers have greatly enhanced career opportunities for people with
impaired vision. New technologies produce synthesized speech, enhanced
large
print and Braille output. But there are not enough people to teach these
new technologies.

Our unique curriculum affords a new career opportunity for participants
who,
in turn, will help others increase their skills and employment options.

Participants will learn to:
· Develop teaching strategies for users with visual impairments
· Provide instruction in the use of adaptive technology
· Develop consistent training plans with objectives, goals and outcomes
· Report on, and bill for, services

Who Should Apply
Users of adaptive technologies, who are un- or underemployed, are
encouraged
to enroll. Computer technology instructors and teachers of the visually
impaired can also enhance their skills through this program.

Hello,

Could you send me more info about your teacher training program or point
me to an url with more info? I was forwarded an announcement but it
contained little info.

Kelly
