Hi,

I requested mail list members to take part in a survey in June regarding
shopping habits, and labelling issues.

There were 218 respnses.

I have since changed my mail address, hence the delay in posting summarised
results.

Mnay of the results were as you would expect.

85% of respondents were female, 84% from USA, and 7% from Canada. The rest were
from a small variety of countries.

97% listed gluten as an issue in their diet and when shopping. But 20% listed
lactose, 10% diabetic, 10% cholesterol, 8% corn, 7% vetetarian, 7% nuts.

50% did supplementary shopping in multiple outlets for special needs.

From a labelling perspective, the vast majority were unhappy with labelling
details, and information provided by supermarkets (hovering around 90% for all
the questions).

92% used the Internet for diet inforamtion, 66% used support groups, 64% food
manufacturers, and 35% used word of mouth.

60% check non food items such as cosmetics, toothpastes and cleaning fluids
for gluten, i.e. anything which could touch their body.

80% would regard their supermarket more highly if adequate information was made
available regarding their dietary requirements.

I'd like to thank all those who took part.

Regards,

Donal Dunne (Waterford Ireland)
