Hi:

To follow up on Steve Noble's earlier post, here is some additional
information and a few more resources for those who may find them of interest.

The May 2001 issue of the American Foundation for the Blinds AccessWorld
was devoted to ebooks and NISO/DAISY in particular. It includes an article
by Janina Sajka in basic English about this technology, and it includes an
interview with George Kerscher of RFB&D. AFB is releasing this issue as a
DAISY book on CD ROM later this month.

See AFB's Website for AccessWorld subscription instructions.

http://www.afb.org.

TBP is the Swedish Library for the Blind. They're currently working on a
DAISY player which will be a vb script that plugs into Internet Explorer.
They will release the source of their script--not just a binary plugin.

Also, Visuaide of Quebec at:

http://www.visuaide.com

is currently in beta of a software player.

Finally, AFB's paper, Surpassing Gutenberg, provides a useful overview of
the subject. See:

http://www.afb.org/ebook.html
