Hi all,

Hoping someone can offer some advice here.

I am using a Pentium 3, Windows ME and Jaws.

About a week ago Outlook Express suddenly started to take dramatically
longer to download messages. It usually takes 10 to 20 minutes to download
an average of 250 messages. It now takes well over an hour to do the same.

At first I thought it was a phone line or ISP problem, but there are other
symptoms which started at the same time.

If the DialUp connection is already open when I start Outlook Express,
Outlook still starts dialing, presumably having hung up the existing
connection. If I check the DialUp speed before and after Outlook does this
the speed is always half or less, than what it was before Outlook re dialed.

Before this problem began, Outlook would simply use the existing connection
and connect to my email provider and start downloading messages.

Internet Explorer now wants to start dialing as soon as I start it. Before
the problem, because I have the start up page set to blank, it waited until
after I entered an address or selected a Favourite.

I have checked that there is still only 1 DialUp connection by going in via
"My
Computer", control Panel, DialUp Networking. I have gone through as many
settings as I can find, but don't really remember what they should be, as
everything has been going so well for so long.

I have not added or removed any software or hardware and keep my virus
checker up to date. I have not consciously changed any settings, but all I
can think of is that I must have changed something I shouldn't have without
intending to.

I would really appreciate any help with these issues.

With much gratitude in advance,
Paul from Australia.
