It's interesting how this question took off in two directions with two
separate interpretations.
It will probably be difficult to install from recovery disks because the
usual setup routine isn't needed since they assume you'll just use the disk
image as-is. But I say if you're not risking data loss on the install
drive then just give it a try, what have you got to lose except time.
Use the recovery disks on the new machine and see what happens. If it does
work you'll probably need to mess around with your hardware drivers. You
may even want to copy/rename your hardware profile under the system section
of control panel and then reboot. It should ask you which hardware profile
to boot with. Choose neither of the existing profiles. I haven't done
this in awhile but if I remember correctly it should re-detect all your
hardware. Of course you may still have to install some drivers manually.
If it doesn't work ... well then you know you'll have to get a regular copy
on disk.
The Linux suggestion is a good one also. ;-)
