I was 32 when my legs began to get tight for no apparent reason. Slowly, I
began to fall more often, and could no longer negotiate walking the slope of
the driveway, and no longer could manage to get up and down curbs. I resisted
the limitations, but eventually my legs just wouldn't go anywhere anymore
unless I was holding on to somebody or something. At 40 it became clear that
all the positive thinking in the world wasn't going to make my legs walk
again, and so I got my first power chair. now I am 45, and have awful hip
pain when I bear weight on my left side, in addition, I have lost my sense of
balance. Talking to my cousins they were talking about how for their Mom &
dad, the legs were the first thing to "go" and how that seemed true for most
elderly folks, seems the legs just go for some miles and then they quit, on
even healthy, active 80 and 90 year olds. Perhaps with our added spasticity,
our legs just wear out faster?
