My Win98se box at home has been getting cranky, was planning to move to XP.
Really bad today. Startup sound kept coming up loud and distorted. Plays
fine from control panel.
Some weird vxd errors, "VXD--------" no numbers, just the dashes.
So, I format c: and stuff ME into it. Went well.
Install SB Live drivers only. Sounds good.
Install USR 5695 modem drivers. Modem works, no sound!
Remove / refresh sound card, sound works.
Reboot - no sound again.
Turns out the modem drivers are for win95b, 98, NT and 2000. ME missing from
the list.
www.usr.com says only those supported. No drivers for ME! (No drivers for
you! Come back next month!)
Sent email to support at USR. Odds I hear back from a person?
Or just reinstall 98SE?
