I'll be taking my trip to the outer banks at the end of next week, so I'll
post after that about places I find to eat. In the mean time, here is a
summary of suggestions about GF-friendly locales in the area and along the
way from DC:
-There are both Trader Joes & Whole Foods Markets in the DC area. There
websites have location info..trader joes has maps.
-In the Tidewater, VA area there are Kroger stores that actually carry a
bit of GF stuff (Mac & Cheese, cereals, pasta, etc)
-Another wise person suggested not stopping until Kitty Hawk due to
traffic "The grocery stores in the Kitty Hawk area you will find are just
as well stocked as those at home. I seem to remember all of them having
a "health food" section"
-"There's a BBQ place in Manteo, right on the main road that makes corn
bread without flour - only corn meal, but again I am drawing a blank on the
name. It is on the northern end of a shopping strip with a grocery store
in it that is on the west side of the road just as you come into Manteo
from the ocean side."
-In addition, the area is seafood-intense and most places offer great
steamed selections.
-"I vacation in Duck or Corolla every year. There are some very upscale
restaurants up there, most of which can do plain seafood for you. I usually
take bread and pasta for my daughter and pick up the rest of what I need
at the Food Lion in Corolla or Southern Shores."
I can't wait to vaction...Kat in UT
