Dear Listmates:

Interesting article in the New York Times on June 19 about autoimmune
disease. http://www.nytimes.com/2001/06/19/health/19AUTO.html It is
called Studying the Autoimmune Disease Puzzle. I wonder why so many
celiac patients have other autoimmune problems? I located Dr.
Faustman's e-mail address in case anyone would like to write.

The Italians have their children screened for celiac disease before the age
of 7 to prevent further diseases. We need to have our children screened
before the age of 2. This can be accomplished by a simple new stool test at
www.enterolab.com 35% of celiac children have a second autoimmune disease
before the age of 20. Gluten sensitivity appears to be the trigger for most
autoimmune diseases. Everyone with an autoimmune disease should be screened
for gluten sensitivity/celiac disease.
