Does anyone know if any real progress in terms of screen reader
accessibility has been made with AOL since the NFB crossed swords with
them?

A number of partially sighted AOL users in the States are starting to
contribute to lists such as Duxuser, Guispeak, etc., where the preferred
format is Plain Text, and find they can only send HTML messages.

We've also checked with AOL Technical Support here in the U.K., and it
appears you do not have a choice. It's HTML format or nothing!

However, AOL are doing some heavy pressure marketing here offering up
200 hours completely free access to get you hooked. (Yes - FREE! No
phone bills) Unfortunately you MUST give credit card details to start
the free evaluation, but are then given a telephone number to call if
you DO NOT want to continue. But just try getting through to cancel it,
when you realise you've been had!
