My friend, whose computer I'm "technically" responsible for has had
recent problems booting up. Originally this thing was an eMachine
eTower 400i, and as far as most of the guts are concerned it still
is. I've simply moved it all into a new case after the machine kept
shutting itself down before due to the legendary faulty power supply
installed in most eMachine computers.

So ever since moving it over I've been seeing a lot of blue screens
saying the computer is unable to write to Drive C, in addition to
frequent system lockups to the point that the task manager cannot
even be brought up.

In addition, on reboots, now I get a message asking for a boot disk
because no FAT32 partition can be found on the hard drive. It is a
4.3 gigabyte 5400 RPM hard drive, but I'm not sure of the brand they
put in there.

So basically I want to find out if the motherboard can cause this
kind of problem or if it is exclusively the hard drive. I've also
noticed that during the scan disk, the hard drive seems to power up
and down a lot...or that's how it sounds.

I'm going to tear into it and check the power connections to make
sure they're all secure, but if you have comments on anything else,
please reply so I can make a wise purchase.

Ethan
