I must admit,I felt elated by the success of all the
African teams at this year's world cup even though I
am not mad about sports in general. What I got from
this year's experience is that come to think of it, we
Africans really love each other.Take for
instance,Africans who do not know a single Senegalese
or Cameroonian rooting for teams from these
countries...it just makes one feel so good
inside. Now,here is the challenge; translating this
collective euphoria into the political arena. If we
showed the same level of enthusiasm and passion in
politics as we do in sports,no-one can ever imagine
where we will take Africa to years down the
road.Afterall,we are talking about the place endowed
with 30% of the world's resources.This soccer
experience is a manifestation of our shared values
which with a little prodding and cajoling can be
translated into a political dimension for the benefit
of our peoples.I am confident we will get there.Soon.....Mathew
