   The University of Wisconsin-Madison General Library System (GLS) is accepting applications for the position of
   Associate Information Processing Consultant. The position is an academic staff, fixed term appointment of one year
   with the possibility of renewal. Benefits for the position include 22 vacation days, sick leave, group health and life
   insurance and a state retirement plan. Salary minimum is $33,906.

   This position will be part of the GLS Library Technology Group (LTG) Help Desk Team under the general direction of the
   Associate Director for Technology. LTG supports over 40 libraries on Campus including the GLS and professional school
   libraries of Health Science, Law and Engineering with a workstation base of approximately 1000. The workstation
   environment consists of NT and Novell servers with NT on the desktop, with over 400 PC workstations running Windows
   connecting internal library operations, the GLS uses the Endeavor Voyager system running on a Sun Solaris platform.
   This is closely integrated into the EL services. Numerous citation databases and Web servers are on RS6000 platforms
   running AIX; ERL server, Z39.50, OpenTEXT and other resources are supported on a Sun Solaris platform.

   Degree and Area of Specialization: Bachelors degree

   Required: A minimum of one year work experience with the technical aspects of a large scale automated library system
   or a year of work experience in Computer Operations, Information Center, Info Lab, or Help Desk; demonstrated oral,
   written and interpersonal communication skills.

   Desired: One or more of the following: experience with Novell, NT or 2000 networking, system administration and
   implementation; consulting experience on a wide variety of library instructional technologies including imaging and
   multimedia; experience in user training and documentation preparation; Windows development and support; experience in
   coordination of hardware purchasing, installation, repairs; experience with network hardware and infrastructure
   support including Ethernet cards, switches and routers; experience with vendor self-maintainer programs.

   Principal Duties: The consultant will be part of the LTG Help Desk team and will work closely with all levels of
   library staff and users including faculty, researchers, students and the general public. There will also be continuous
   interaction with the Division of Information Technology (DoIT) staff as well as Campus/College/Departments technical
   staff. The consultant will be expected to participate actively in library and campus-wide committees. The consultant
   will develop new or revised client functions within the EL system, provide implementation and system support for
   citation databases and full-text databases on any of the EL computer platforms; be responsible for troubleshooting and
   support of the EL system, (online public catalog, Voyager, Novell/NT/2000 network, CD-ROM products, Web); work closely
   with other LTG staff members to provide training and insure a high level of quality support for library users; provide
   consulting and recommendations for instructional electronic technologies to library staff.
