Larry,
The computer is a Compaq Presario. The BIOS doesn't have an option to
disable any com ports, or any info on the com ports. I removed the modem
and all com ports from device manager and rebooted. Device manager then
showed a conflict between the modem and a com port. I changed the resources
on the modem and it worked. However, when I rebooted again, it stopped
working again.
I have tried two modems, one is PCI, the other is ISA. Both modems get the
same results. I am at my wits end here... I wonder if reinstalling Windows
would help, although I prefer not to, since the PC has a lot of software
installed on it.
Mark
